One of my favorite skincare products for the last two years or so has been micellar waters. Simply put micellar waters are a solution of water with small oil molecules in it. They can be used to remove makeup, cleanse the skin, and moisturize at the same time. Pretty much it’s the lazy girls best friend! Can I get an amen?
Over the last couple of years I have tried A LOT of different micellar waters, and I wanted to share thy knowledge that I have accumulated with thee.
#8 – Sephora Collection Triple Action Cleansing Water
I had high hopes for this cleansing water. A Youtuber that I watch, FleurDeForce, raved about it being one of her favorite products for months. Of course I had to try it out. It did remove all of my makeup… My waterproof mascara and liquid lipsticks were no match. However, it had a this crazy strong scent and left behind a nasty, sticky residue on my skin. More then that though, the reason why I ended up HATING this micellar water is the taste. It tasted HORRIBLE!!! My husband would kiss me goodnight and cringe. Needless to say, I never repurchased this product and never will.
#7 – Eau Thermale Avene Micellar Lotion
I got a sample of this cleansing water in my IPSY bag. I liked the fact that the scent was very mild and it didn’t irritate my skin. I really didn’t like the fact that it didn’t remove my makeup. Considering that’s solely what I use micellar waters for, this was a big let down.
#6 – Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water
Caudalie is one of my favorite skincare brands out there. While working at Sephora I got to try a lot of their products. I even got a full size of this one in gratis. What I like about is that it’s on the natural side of skincare. It’s removes my makeup well. It’s demise, much like the Sephora Collection Cleansing Water, it has a strong scent and leaves behind a sticky residue. The only reason it actually ranks above that micellar water is because it doesn’t have a horrible taste.
#5 – Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water/ All-In-One
There hasn’t been too much hype around this micellar water, but it was a drugstore option, so I had to try it out. I didn’t like or dislike it. Truly I almost forgot that I had even tried this micellar water. The scent was fine. It didn’t leave behind much residue. Plus it removed makeup decently. I just found myself feeling very underwhelmed by this option. If you’re looking for an inexpensive skincare product, you may like this. My recommendation though, is to read ahead and see if there’s a better one for you.
#4 – Dior Micellar Water
I’ve heard nothing about this micellar water online, but when I worked at Sephora it was my go to. It didn’t matter what I had on my hand, this bad boy would take it off in a heartbeat. If money was no object to me I would ALWAYS purchase this micellar water, but it’s $42 for a small bottle. I can’t quite wrap my head around that; However, if you’re looking for a luxurious skincare product to splurge on, this is amazing!
#3 – Bioderma
This is cult beauty Micellar Water on the market. It’s not available anywhere in the US, so I waited until I went to Europe and picked one up. Bioderma definitely lives up to it’s reputation. It removes makeup easily, doesn’t have a strong scent, and won’t leave behind ANY residue. The biggest downsides to this product is the price and it’s availability. It’s a spendy little booger and hard to get your hands on.
#2 – Belif Herbal Cleansing Water
I have a personal love for the Korean Skincare brand Belif. I love that they use herbs in their products, and that they’re classified as a “clean skincare brand.” Second to Dior, this is the Micellar Water I would reach for during skin preps at Sephora. No waterproof makeup will stand up to it. It does have a scent to it, but it’s very Earthy and not the slightest bit overwhelming. The price is reasonable, but I still wouldn’t call it budget friendly.
#1 – Simple Micellar Water
AND FINALLY… MY FAVORITE…
Simple Micellar Water is amazing! I would compare it to the effectiveness of Bioderma, but it’s less than a third of the price. It leaves absolutely no residue. My skin feels clean without being tight and dry. This is the Micellar Water I can’t live without! I always have two to three of these bottles on hand. One for personal use, one for removing swatches, and one for my professional makeup kit. This baby is my Ride or Die.
